The time has come for the NCAA to come to its senses and close a loophole that gives a competitive advantage to those college coaches who text prospective recruits excessively. It circumvents established rules for phone calls and personal visits, and inundates high school students beyond the traditional voicemail and letters.
One need look no further than Urban Meyer to see its ills. He reportedly spent the entire second half of the Super Bowl texting (and stealing) recruits from rivals.
One also wonders how NCAA-sanctioned head coach Kelvin Sampson swayed blue chipper Eric Gordon to Hoosier Daddy Land sans cell phone. If the NCAA fails to act, Bruce Weber better train his thumbs over the offseason. Otherwise he'll be sharing the sidelines with Steve Yoder doing BT B-games between Northwestern and PSU.
